Backup Camera Mount

This entry is part 2 of 11 in the series Sprinter

To be able to back up and park in the city without destroying anything, a backup camera was the first installation. The camera had to be put high up so that you can easily see the distance from objects. I did not want to drill holes through the body, so the brake light was a good location. It already has access holes to the interior. I was able to make a mount that required only minimal modification of the brake light.

An aluminum base plate was cut and drilled to align with the original brake light mounting holes. Tall spacers are used to elevate the plate from the brake light, and a third clear support post touches the brake light housing to stabilize the camera.

The camera came with a plastic bracket that attached to the back of the camera. I was able to use this bracket to make it easier to mount the camera. Drilled holes for two screws allow the camera to be tilted up and down.

A plasma [hand] cut stainless frame is the support for the plastic bracket. The slot allows up and down adjustability of the camera, and the base can rotate to adjust the camera from left to right.
