Do IDECH Power Rotary Scissors Work With Cordless Electric Weed Eater Trimmer?

I wanted to use the IDECH Power Rotary Scissors with the Expand-It universal-style attachments that Ryobi uses on a Ryobi 18V brushless trimmer or the Greenworks corded trimmer. The Ryobi 18V trimmer did not have the torque or battery life needed to use the power rotary scissors. The Greenworks corded trimmer has a ton of power and torque and has no issues running the power rotary scissors. However, I would like to ditch the cord and have the ability to feather the throttle for lower speeds.

ATTACHING IDECH ROTARY SCISSORS TO EXPAND-IT TRIMMER SHAFT

The RYOBI Expand-It trimmer shaft is inch-sized (25.4mm) instead of metric 25mm. Therefore, the adapters with the IDECH Rotary Scissors I purchased straight from Japan through eBay did not work with the 25.4mm shaft. I had to cut strips of a soda can and use a few wraps to shim the space between the rotary scissor ID and the Expand-It shaft OD. It works perfectly.

Expand-It attachments are the "standard" sized trimmer attachments, compatible with many different models of trimmer heads.

GREENWORKS CORDED TRIMMER (Works great!)

The Greenworks corded trimmer has always been a beast. It has as much power or more than a gas trimmer. I often have trouble keeping attachments like the pole saw from twisting in the connection due to the massive amount of torque. I had to replace the push button on the shaft with a bolt to prevent twisting.

RYOBI 18V BRUSHLESS (Does not work with rotary scissors)

The Ryobi 18V trimmer did not have the torque or battery life needed to use the power rotary scissors. It would turn on for a few seconds and cut off.

ECHO DPAS-2100SBC1 (Sorta works with rotary scissors)

I had high hopes for the ECHO DPAS-2100SBC1, but the low-end torque struggles to start the rotary scissors. It works better with the 5Ah battery than the 2.5Ah battery. The 5Ah lasts a very long time. The 2.5Ah also lasts a long time, but once you get down to 2 bars, it won't start anymore. With either battery, it works most of the time but is slow to start.

Sometimes, it cuts out, especially when something large is being cut, but then the battery also cuts off, and you need to wait a good 10-15 seconds for it to reset. Pushing the power level button on the battery seems to reset it immediately. For some reason, this issue is worse on the 5Ah battery. I thought the 5Ah would be the cure to cutting out since, in theory, it should be able to provide twice the current, but the performance is only slightly better than the 2.5Ah battery.

When the trimmer can't start the rotary scissors anymore, I squirt some spray lube into the blades, and they begin working again. The more often the blades are lubricated, the easier they start with this trimmer.

Once the blades are spinning, it's a beast and works great until you hit something really hard. It usually cuts through any sapling that will fit in the teeth, but sometimes it will cut out when doing so. If it doesn't restart immediately, the battery level indicator button must be pressed to reset the battery.

Overall, the DPAS-2100SBC1 works for rotary scissors, but you have to be patient with the slow start, lubricate the blades every 20-30 minutes of use with spray lube, and press the battery level indicator button to restart if it cuts off. It seems that the DPAS-2600 is designed to work with attachments that require more torque and, therefore, will work better with rotary scissors. I can't justify paying 3X as much for the DPAS-2600 vs. the DPAS-2100.

NOTE: The IDECH Rotary Scissors were already installed on a RYOBI Expand-It trimmer shaft. I modified the Expand-It trimmer shaft to fit onto the ECHO PAS-2100 trimmer head because it is slightly larger in diameter than the ECHO shaft. This modification was basic and shouldn't affect the trimmer's performance.
